Man Jumps Counter At New Castle Bank

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police responded to a bank robbery at a New Castle Bank on Monday.

Officials were called to the scene after a man jumped over the counter at the First Commonwealth Bank on North Liberty Street.

The man had fled the bank by the time police arrived at scene.

Police said the robber has not been seen since.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Armed robber strikes

An armed robber held up First Choice Credit Union on Friday morning and fled with an unknown amount of cash.

The incident at the 1400 Wilmington Road office took place shortly after 11 a.m. A sign on the door said directed customers to other offices to transact their business. An man who answered the door declined to talk about the robbery.

New Castle police were combing the North Hill for a 5-foot-8 white male who had worn a blue bandana over his face during the robbery. Employees told police that the man fled south on foot and was carrying a yellow bag.

Bank robber sentenced

A man who robbed a Lawrence County bank five years ago will serve 15 years in jail.

William F. Perry, 64, of North Versailles, Allegheny County, also was ordered Monday by a federal court judge in Pittsburgh to serve five years of probation following his release from prison.

Perry was charged with nine bank robberies between 2004 and 2006. On Jan. 2, 2004, prosecutors said, he used a replica firearm to rob the ESB bank at 1793 Mercer Road, Ellwood City.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Pittsburgh said Perry also robbed a Huntingdon County bank three times in 2004; a Washington County bank twice in 2004; a Westmoreland county bank twice in 2006; and a New Cumberland, W.Va., bank in 2005.

Perry was indicted in 2007 after an investigation by the FBI. He could have received a maximum of 225 years in prison.

Woman Accused Of Robbing Lawrence County Bank With Gun

UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A man and a woman suspected of robbing a bank in Union Township, Lawrence County, are in custody, state police at the New Castle barracks said.Betty Jo Buteria, 40, and Gregory Lee Wilmouth, 51, were arraigned Tuesday on robbery charges in connection with a hold-up at First Merit Bank on West State Street. Police said a woman, who they believe is Buteria, showed a black semiautomatic pistol during the robbery Saturday. No injuries were reported.Buteria and Wilmouth, both of Edinburg, are being held on $100,000 bond each.

Lawrence Co. Woman Arrested for Robberies

NEW CASTLE, Lawrence County-- State Police say they arrested a woman suspected of pulling off two area robberies this month. Troopers say 40-year old Betty Joe Buteria of Edinburg faces robbery charges for allegedly holding up a bank and convenience store. They took her into custody on Tuesday-- one day after releasing security camera video of one of the robberies.

Police say Buteria is the woman in the security video at the Tic Toc Mart in North Beaver Township robbed on New Year's Day. They say she also is the suspect wanted in the First Merit Bank robbery in Union Township last Saturday.
